PTPV

EMPOWERING TEEM PARENTS &

PROMOTING PROTECTIVE FACTORS

Teen Parenting Program/Arlington, Virginia USA.

Over the first quarter of 2009 and 2010 the PTPV program has completed the activities planned inthis period, which have included home visits, psycho-educational services, case management, and family activity. It was registered that more than 30 participants benefited directly from the program and 40 people benefited indirectly from the activities or services provided by this program.  The activities focused on preventing domestic violence, increasing protective factors and promoting copping skills through three components.

Data collected discriminating participation according to program / number of clients

served: Data in Chart 1 suggests that the proportion between invitation to participate and registered

participation is almost 2 to 1. Regarding clients from the APT program, out of 25 clients invited to

participate, 13 attended sessions. The same proportion was obtained from clients from the Outreach

program with 12 invited and 5 attending.

2008-From October to December 2008 seven types of activities have been completed with an average of

10 clients per activity. The types of activities completed during last quarter were: five outreach

workshops, three family activities, five teen-mom sessions, one significant other sessions, nine home

visits, 10 staff meetings, and 12 individual psycho-education sessions. 19 youth participated in the

outreach workshops, 30 in family activities, an average of 8 youth in the weekly teen-mom sessions,

18 clients and relatives in the home visits, and six clients have benefited from individual and group

COLLABORATION ACTIVITIES WITH COMMUNITY PARTNERS YOUR AGENCY HAS ENGAGED

IN THI S QUARTER THAT HELPS FIGHT FAMILY VIOLENCE.

CHART. 2 COLLABORATION ACTIVITIES WITH COMMUNITY PARTNERS

Chart 2 shows collaboration with community partners that our agency has engaged and identifies the proportions of

clients refereed to services.

Fundejoven has created links with key departments and divisions inside the Arlington Department of

Human Services (DHS), developed a survey questionnaire to assess family needs, and provided

individual case management services in collaboration with the Arlington DHS. This collaboration

has consisted of phone contacts, setting meetings, assisting clients to communicate (translation in

some cases), persuade and coach clients on how to navigate the system, and advocate on behalf of

client to expedite services. As a result of these case management services and above links, families

were able to receive information on or get services such as food stamps, crisis assistance, shelter,

housing grants, and medical/dental services from the Career Center and Arlington Mill.

2009 - Over the first quarter of 2009 the PTPV program has completed the activities planned in

this period, which have included home visits, psycho-educational services, case management,

and family activity. It was registered that 19 participants benefited directly from the program

and 35 people benefited indirectly from the activities or services provided by this program.

The activities focused on preventing domestic violence, increasing protective factors and

promoting copping skills through three components.

The chart describes specific data about services provided to the participants

from January to April 2009. A total of 31 clients were referred for services in the first quarter

2009, some having continued from the second quarter 2008 and some new clients. From this

group, 19 received services in areas identified below. In attachment A. Table 1 you can find

the data for each student.

Fundejoven finished the project for this school year and performed The

Closing Ceremony Award Presentation. All (present and absent) PTPV participants were

offered a certificate of participation in recognition of their commitment and performance

during all cycles of the project. One of the participants gave a testimony of her experiences

in the program and a video with pictures of the activities was presented to evidence the great

job of the teens, family and father of the babies.
